Fraud Alert – Keep Yourself Safe

At MC Federal Credit Union, we are committed to providing you with the knowledge you need to keep your account and personal information safe. Fraudsters will use all kinds of tricks to get you to divulge your personal and financial data, including phone calls, text messages, spoofed emails, and websites designed to look authentic.

In order to protect yourself, be sure to follow these helpful tips:

  • Regardless of whether it is a phone call, email, or a text message, always be suspicious of unsolicited communications.
  • Never click on links embedded in an unsolicited communication. Links may include malware which can be used to spy on, or even take over, your device.
  • Do not share passwords or your Personal Identification Number (PIN) with anyone.
  • Never provide your confidential information, such as Social Security Number or Date of Birth, to someone unless you have initiated the contact or are positive you are speaking with a valid representative.
  • If you are unsure of the legitimacy of a phone call, email, or text message, contact the company using the phone number found on your monthly statement, the phone book, or the company’s legitimate website. Do not use any phone numbers provided by a caller or sent in a text message or email correspondence.
  • If the communication involves a problem with an order or transaction, log into your account with that company to verify whether there is an issue.
  • A legitimate organization will never tell you to avoid contacting your financial institution or the police.

As a fraud prevention measure, our fraud team may reach out to you to confirm credit and debit card transactions that have been flagged as suspicious. This is done through text message, phone calls, and emails. Part of this process involves verifying some of your personal information. If you are unsure if the call, text message, or email is legitimate, you can verify by calling us directly at 800.834.0082 or using the messages feature in our digital banking service.

Unfortunately, we have seen scams affect members of our community. For additional tools to help keep you and your family safe, visit us at mcfcu.org/security.

Your financial well-being is among our top priorities at MC Federal Credit Union.

Thank you for being an important part of the MC Federal community.
