Fraud Alert – Beware Fraudulent Text Messages

MC Federal Credit Union has been notified that members are receiving spoofed text messages that appear to come from our institution. The message states that “Your account has been placed on hold due to unauthorised activities”. You are asked to secure your account by clicking on an embedded link. This link leads to a fake website where you are asked to enter your digital banking credentials. The fake site appears similar to our legitimate digital banking log-in page, including our logo.

MC Federal Credit Union will never send an unsolicited text message and ask you to provide your digital banking credentials. Do not provide this sensitive information to anyone not authorized to have it. Do not respond to unsolicited messages or click on links contained in them. Please report any suspicious communications to a member service representative as soon as possible by calling us at 800.834.0082, stopping in a branch, or sending us a message via Digital Banking.

If you have provided your digital banking credentials, or other personal information, to anyone unauthorized to have them, please let us know immediately so we can take action to protect you and your account.

This is just one example of a reported spoofed text message. There may be other variations with different illegitimate URLs. Red flags contained in this message are grammar errors and the misspelling of the word unauthorized.

This is an example of a fake version of our digital banking log-in page. Note the similar layout and unauthorized use of the MC Federal logo.
